Off to work I go

So today I unofficially started back to work after being on maternity leave for 10 weeks. I will officially go back to work June 23rd, but they were in desperate need of a PT to do some evaluations. So being the dedicated employee I am, I said yes. Not to mention, I am getting tired of not getting a paycheck and I have to be honest and say I was looking forward to adult interaction again (spouses don't count). Today I only worked for about 3 hours, but I felt like a better mom when I got home. Sounds funny I know. But, when I am home all day I think I get bored with the same old thing and tend to occupy Mason, rather than play with him, since Reese is quite the hands on kind of baby. So when I got home today, I was trying to find ways to accommodate her and actually play with Mason (which is what I guess I am supposed to do everyday, but would get exhausting). I guess I just appreciated the time more with them today and made the most of it. It's funny the difference a little bit of adult converstaion can have on a person when they are used to talking to kids all day long. So that's enough of my rambling, but just a thought.

cutest picture ever!

We finally got a picture of them together. It already looks like she is in charge, at only 10 weeks. We had to distract him with a movie so he wouldn't try to run away, which is what he usually does.

Who invited that kid?

The sayings that come out of an almost 3 year old are quite amusing. Mason likes to watch the movie "Toy Story" and his favorite scene is at Andy's birthday party. As presents he gets a lunch box and set of bed sheets. So someone says "who invited that kid?". So now Mason loves to put "who invited that kid?" after random words. Examples:

Me: Mason, we're having guacamole with dinner tonight.
Mason: Guacamole, who invited that kid? (Picture arms stretched out to the side asking the question)

Mason: What's that?
Me: Chalk
Mason: Chalk, who invited that kid?

Get the picture. It's funny how he places so much emphasis on the first word, then says his phrase...priceless.

Other new sayings:
Oh me, oh my!
I do it! (all the time)
You got money mama? (I've left the house without money one time too many apparently)

spittin' images

So obviously Reese is on the left and Mason is on the right side. They are each 2 months old in these pictures. We think they look so much like each other so I was trying to find similar posed pictures. This is all I could come up with so far.

Our morning excitement today

We had some major excitement this morning to report. Apparently, a blue bird flew in the house through the back door. I was changing Reese's diaper in our bedroom and heard a commotion on the stairs. I yelled to Mason asking if he was ok, and he said yes. Then I asked him if Jack was chasing a bug and he said no. Hmmm...what could it be? So I walked out of the bedroom only to see a bird fly from the stairs to the other side of the living room trying to find a way out. Normally the dogs would be going crazy, but I honestly think they couldn't figure out why there was a bird in the house. So while Reese already crying pretty loudly for her feeding, I had to set her down in the car seat, corral the dogs in my room, and then figure out what to do with the bird. My original thought was to open all the doors and just hope it would find its way out. Meanwhile, Mason was on the stairs watching all the commotion. He thought it was funny until the bird landed on the window sill of the stair landing. Which meant that he couldn't come down stairs. Not so funny after all. So I told him to go into his room. When he did that he slammed the door behind him which means he can't get out because he has one of those child safety things on the door knob. So my plan of just letting the bird eventually find it's way out won't work because now Mason can't get out of his room and I would have to go by the bird to get to his room. So what do you grab to catch a bird...my initial thoughts included a colander, large tupperware, a broom, and blanket. I went with the blanket. Fortunately, by this time the bird had managed to find it's way behind a picture frame leaned up against the window on the sill in the corner so it basically trapped itself. So with my blanket in hand I very carefully squished the bird into the corner then reached in and grabbed it with my bare hands. Yes, I'm a country girl. So I caught it and then let Mason out of his room thinking he would be excited to see the bird up close. He had some mixed feelings. He wanted to look at it, but not close-up. He wanted me to hold him but then that meant he would be close to the bird. Finally, we made our way down stairs and out the front door to let the birdie go find his mama. That was my explination to Mason. I'm sure I could have made this long story short, but it sure was humorous from our end. I was rather proud of myself for handling the situation so well. I did let only one girly shriek when it flew right past my head once. Not bad!

Updates

Sorry it's been so long since our last post. We really don't have much new to say so I didn't want to bore anyone. Reese is doing well, quite the chunky monkey. We have had 2 episodes of sleeping through the night so things are looking up. Mason is getting so big and talking a lot and seems to come up with the most random conversations sometimes. He also says "thank you mama" and "sorry mama" for just about anything making it funny sometimes. The dogs are as annoying as ever but who could blame them since we don't have time for walks anymore. They are so pitiful.

We are making our first official road trip with 2 kids this holiday weekend. We have about a 5.5 hour drive to make without kids, so I am thinking probably 6.5 with kids. We are just crossing our fingers. We are visiting my parents so Mason is excited. When you ask Mason what he is going to do there, he responds with " watch Missy poop with Papa". Missy is a horse. We have warned Papa that he may have to watch the horse poop so he is aware, maybe we should warn Missy. Here are some recent pics.

Just the guys

Mason, Grandpa and I ran in the Allen Springfest 5k this weekend. It's been a while since I've done a 5k and pushed Mason. He and I usually run a couple of times a week and stop off at a park and let him play on one of the playgrounds. Saturday morning turned out to be a bit chilly, but Mason didn't care. We got to run past Lyn's work where there's a construction site next door. He was more excited to see the men digging than all the other people running. It was a tight race, but Mason won. Hey, he crossed the line first. He excitedly came home to tell Lyn "I beat daddy and Grandpa!" Grandpa did well, finishing 3rd in his age group. We came in around 6th in my age group. I think they should have a stroller division. We started in the back with the rest of the dads and moms pushing their kiddos and I'm pretty sure we smoked them :) Can't wait until he's old enough to run with me.
